Water Quality

Classification: Excellent (Classificazione S). The wastewater treatment system is a mixed public sewer connected to a treatment plant at Valdaso with a design capacity of 5,000 population equivalents. Treatment is biological using activated sludge. COD, BOD5, and suspended solids parameters were consistently compliant in 2006 and 2007. Microbiological controls in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were all compliant.

Risks

Discharge from Enel power plant located 100 metres to the north. Two overflow structures (scolmatore) along Via Leopardi, one discharging into the Aso river and one into coastal waters. Short-duration pollution events identified as accidental failures and overflow from overflow structures.
