Water Quality

Water quality classification E. Wastewater treatment via mixed public sewerage system connected to a biological treatment plant at Valdaso with design capacity 5,000 population equivalents. Treatment plant serves Pedaso residents and part of Campofilone. Winter organic load approximately 1,681 population equivalents; summer load approximately 4,169. Plant performance from 2006–2007 showed good efficiency with COD, BOD5, and suspended solids parameters consistently compliant. Microbiological controls 2008–2010 were compliant.

Risks

Enel power station discharge located 200 metres north. Overflow structures (scolmatore) in Via Leopardi direction discharging to Aso river and coastal waters. Short-duration pollution events from accidental failures and overflows identified as sources of concern.
