A beach located 180 metres north of the Metauro River axis in Fano, Italy. The beach features gravel of calcareous origin with a slope of 3–5% above water and 5–10% below water. The average beach width is 57 metres. The beach comprises five concession areas, one free area, and two boat storage zones with launch corridors. The surrounding area is densely urbanized with railway infrastructure nearby.

Water

Marine water body known as Fano_Senigallia. The Metauro River flows into this area with a 121 kilometres course, a catchment basin of 1,325 square kilometres, and astronomical tide variation of 30–50 centimetres. The distance between mean low water and high water (safe water limit) is approximately 10 metres.

Location

Fano, in the province of Pesaro Urbino, Marche region, Italy. Parking is available including reserved parking for disabled visitors. Accessible pedestrian area with facilities connecting parking to beach.

Facilities

First aid and lifeguard service, toilets and bathrooms for disabled visitors, accessible beach access and sea access pathway, parking for disabled visitors, sports facilities including beach volleyball and swimming pool area, children's play area, refreshment point, adjacent pedestrian area. Animals are not permitted.

Water Quality

Water quality classification E. A bloom of non-toxic microalgae (Noctiluca scintillans) occurred during the 2008 and 2009 bathing seasons, causing anomalous discoloration of marine water. A slight increase in microbiological parameters has been recorded. The Ponte Metauro wastewater treatment plant (serving >50,000 population equivalents) undergoes 24 monitoring controls per year for table 1 parameters and 6 controls per year for table 3 parameters under legislative requirements, all in compliance with legal limits.

Risks

Metauro River mouth is present. During intense rainfall, storm overflow discharge structures release untreated wastewater into the sea; the coastal section has 17 overflow discharge points (7 from Ponte Metauro, 10 from Ponte Sasso). Microbiological parameter variations have been documented.
