A gravel beach with calcareous and flint origins located in Fano, Marche region. The emerged beach has a 5% slope and submerged slope of approximately 20%. The distance from low-to-high water line to the secure water limit is about 10 metres. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements with a railway line passing through.

Marine water body. Average width of beach is 33 metres. Emerged beach slope is 5%. Submerged slope is approximately 20%. Distance from average low-to-high water to secure water limit is approximately 10 metres. Astronomical tide range is 30–50 centimetres.

Location

Fano, Pesaro Urbino province, Marche region, Italy. The beach is part of the Fano_Senigallia water body. Average beach width is 33 metres.

Lifeguard service. One free-access area. Camper parking. Sports facilities in nearby area. Animals not permitted.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: E. Slight increase in microbiological parameters identified as a short-duration pollution event. One overflow outlet (17 – Via Ruggeri) from the Ponte Metauro treatment plant discharges to sea. Three wastewater treatment plants serve the area: Ponte Metauro (12,000 cubic metres per day), Bellocchi (2,000 cubic metres per day), and Ponte Sasso (1,000–1,500 cubic metres per day in winter; 3,000–4,000 cubic metres per day in summer). Both Ponte Metauro and Ponte Sasso treatment plants comply with Directive 91/271/CE standards. A bloom of non-toxic microalgae (Noctiluca scintillans) occurred in bathing seasons 2008 and 2009, causing anomalous water discolouration.

Overflow discharge during heavy rainfall events. Short-duration pollution event with slight increase in microbiological parameters from overflow outlet 17 – Via Ruggeri. Microalgae bloom (Noctiluca scintillans) causing water discolouration.
