Camping Madonna Ponte is a bathing beach in Fano, Marche region, with gravel of calcareous origin. The emerged beach has a slope of 1–3%, while the submerged section slopes 5–10%. The beach width averages 62 metres. The surrounding area consists of urban settlements with a railway line passing through.

Coastal bathing water in the Fano–Senigallia body. Average distance between low and high tide water level is 10 metres. Astronomical tide range is 30–50 centimetres.

Location

Fano, province of Pesaro Urbino, Marche region. The beach is adjacent to a campground area. Reserved parking for disabled persons is available, with an accessible path from the parking area to the beach.

Water Quality

Classification E. Wastewater treatment is carried out by three activated sludge treatment plants. The main Ponte Metauro plant (serving over 50,000 population equivalents) treats approximately 12,000 cubic metres daily. The Bellocchi plant treats about 2,000 cubic metres daily. The Ponte Sasso plant treats 1,000–1,500 cubic metres daily in winter and 3,000–4,000 cubic metres daily in summer. During intense rainfall, overflow discharges occur through multiple discharge points. Slight increase in microbiological parameters has been identified as a short-duration pollution event. Non-toxic microalgae bloom (Noctiluca scintillans) occurred in 2008 and 2009, causing anomalous water colouration.

Risks

Overflow discharges from the sewerage system occur during heavy rainfall. One overflow structure ('Troppo pieno Brecce') and one discharge outlet ('19 Via delle Brecce') release into the marine environment or soil. Non-toxic microalgae blooms have caused water discolouration.
