A sandy beach located in Gabicce Mare, Pesaro Urbino Province, in the Marche region. The beach is 100 metres wide on average and is positioned between a bathing establishment and the Mississippi restaurant pier. The submerged section is dominated by fine sands, particularly near the shoreline, with mud present near breakwater barriers. The beach sediment composition measured in 2003 showed 98.49% fine sand and 1.51% silt.

Water

Sandy beach (Gabicce water body). Average beach width of 100 metres. The submerged section is dominated by fine sands near the shoreline, followed by very fine sands and mud near breakwater structures.

Location

Gabicce Mare, Marche region, Pesaro Urbino Province. The beach section extends between bathing establishment number 9-10 and the Mississippi restaurant pier. Parking and facilities are available at one bar-restaurant and four bathing establishments with accessible services.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is Category E. The municipality is fully served by a sewage network, predominantly separate type (90%). The Gabicce Mare treatment plant has a capacity of 49,600 population equivalents and serves Gabicce and Gradara territories. In 2010, organic load removal (COD and BOD5 parameters) exceeded 95%, suspended solids and ammonia nitrogen removal also reached 95%. Annual average concentrations of Total Nitrogen and Total Phosphorus comply with directive 91/271/CE standards, with Total Nitrogen below 15 mg/L and Total Phosphorus below 2 mg/L.

Risks

The Tavollo stream mouth is present, which under certain weather conditions can convey mixed waters from overflow outlets connected to the Gabicce treatment plant. A motorised recreational boat operates at the boundary between bathing establishments number 8 and 9. A designated and marked launch corridor has been established to manage conflicts.
