Cattolica - Viale Fiume is a sandy beach bathing area in Cattolica, Emilia-Romagna region, extending approximately 300 meters. The beach is protected by a series of parallel emerged breakwaters, averaging 100 meters in length and spaced about 20 meters apart. The area is characterized by high tourist use with numerous hotels and beach establishments, and maintains constant lifeguard services during the bathing season.

Coastal marine water in the alluvial plain with high stability. Sandy beach with width varying between 100-130 meters as of 2018. Protected by emerged parallel breakwaters inclined approximately 15 degrees to the coastline and positioned about 100 meters offshore.

Water quality classification: Excellent (2020-2023). Escherichia Coli 90th percentile: 93 CFU/100ml; 95th percentile: 138 CFU/100ml. Intestinal Enterococci 90th percentile: 17 CFU/100ml; 95th percentile: 19 CFU/100ml.

Risks

Storm overflow discharge (scaricatore di piena n.19) on Via Fiume can release excess flow into the sea during heavy or prolonged rainfall. The catchment area of 179 hectares is drained by a mixed sewer system. Potential for eutrophication exists due to storm overflow discharge to marine water, though no sustained eutrophic phenomena from cyanobacteria were reported in 2020-2023. No blooms of phytoplankton (Fibrocapsa japonica) or macroalgae were recorded in 2020-2023.
