A sandy beach with fine quartzose feldspar and limestone-flint sand, located in the Marche region near Fano. The beach has a mean slope of 1-3% and is protected by artificial rocky outcrops. The beach spans 58 metres on average, with a distance of 80 metres between medium-low water and high water (safe swimming limit). The surrounding area is densely urbanised with a railway line passing nearby.

Water Quality

2015: Poor class, E. coli 90th percentile 647.0 CFU/100 ml, intestinal enterococci 90th percentile 317.4 CFU/100 ml. 2016: Poor class, E. coli 90th percentile 704.0 CFU/100 ml, intestinal enterococci 90th percentile 371.0 CFU/100 ml. 2017: Sufficient class, E. coli 90th percentile 272 CFU/100 ml, intestinal enterococci 90th percentile 132.0 CFU/100 ml. 2018: Good class, E. coli 95th percentile 328.2 CFU/100 ml, intestinal enterococci 95th percentile 159.7 CFU/100 ml. Wastewater treatment infrastructure serves the municipality via three activated sludge treatment plants. The main Ponte Metauro plant treats approximately 12,000 cubic metres daily and is managed by ASET.

Risks

Slight increase in microbiological parameters caused by urban wastewater. The Torrente Arzilla stream has 2 overflow structures and 1 flood relief outlet affecting the bathing water. Storm overflow discharges occur during heavy rainfall from mixed sewerage system, with 7 outlets from Ponte Metauro and 10 from Ponte Sasso systems reaching the coastal area.
