Pensione Angela Sassonia Centro is a bathing beach in Fano, located in the Marche region of Italy. The beach features calcareous-siliceous gravel with a median slope of 3–5% on the emerged shore and approximately 20% on the submerged portion. The distance between average low and high water marks (safe water limit) is 10 metres, with astronomical tidal range of 30–50 centimetres. The surrounding area is densely urbanised with railway line passage. The beach comprises five concession areas, one free area, and two boat storage areas with launch corridor.

Fano, Pesaro and Urbino Province, Marche region, Italy. The beach has a reserved disabled parking area with accessible pathway from parking to beach, accessible marine access, and is adjacent to a pedestrian area.

The zone is adjacent to a pedestrian area. Animals are not permitted.

Water Quality

Classification: E (as of the profile date 01/02/2011, updated 01/02/2012). The Metauro River mouth serves as the reference discharge point for wastewater treatment plant Ponte Metauro (serving over 50,000 population equivalents). The plant treats approximately 12,000 cubic metres of wastewater daily. All monitoring parameters over the preceding 4 years were compliant with legal limits. No pollution sources have been identified that could affect bathing water quality.

Risks

Non-toxic microalgae bloom (Noctiluca scintillans) with anomalous water discoloration occurred during bathing seasons 2008 and 2009. Storm water overflow discharge points exist: 7 from Ponte Metauro, 10 from Ponte Sasso, and 0 from Bellocchi, which may discharge during intense rainfall events.
