Abildøre Strand øst is a bathing water located east of the Sidinge dam near Abildøre in Denmark. The water is brackish, consisting of a mixture of salt and fresh water. The beach is situated in a nature-protected area with summer houses behind it. Water quality has been classified as excellent based on data from 2016–2019, with significant improvement observed in recent years following sewerage infrastructure work in 2010.

Water

Brackish water body. At the sampling point, approximately 7 metres from shore reaches 0.5 metres depth, 13 metres reaches 1 metre depth, and 225 metres reaches 2 metres depth. Current direction is variable but most commonly flows from the west.

Location

The bathing area is accessed by driving out of Enebærkrogen, located opposite house number 22. A path between houses 18 and 20 leads down to the beach. There is no designated parking area. The path leads to a grassed area with an information board and tables and benches.

Facilities

Information board, tables and benches. Beach monitoring is conducted at least 4 times per year.

Water Quality

Water quality classification 2019: Excellent. Based on data from 2016–2019. The bathing water previously experienced significant problems with sewage pollution, but water quality has improved markedly in recent years with only moderate exceedances now observed. Identified pollution sources include a drainage outlet approximately 800 metres east, a watercourse outlet, the Sidinge fjord North canal immediately to the west receiving treated wastewater and combined sewer overflow, and a watercourse outlet approximately 600 metres to the southwest.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton growth is low. Risk of macroalgae growth is medium. Swimming is not recommended if water clarity is poor and feet cannot be seen at knee depth. Children should not play or bathe near washed-up algae due to potential toxins and bacterial survival. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur. Pollution duration depends on extent of contamination and current and weather conditions; during summer periods, contamination can persist for extended periods.
