Agtrup Vig

Agtrup Vig is a small, natural beach with fine white sand divided by perpendicular stone breakwaters. A bathing pier is available for swimming. The beach is 50 metres long and surrounded primarily by agricultural land, scattered households, and a plant nursery. The water is classified as brackish and located in Kolding Fjord.

Water Quality

The bathing water was classified as Excellent quality in 2020, based on routine samples analysed for E. coli and enterococci bacteria taken throughout the bathing season over four years (2016–2019). Monitoring occurs throughout the bathing season. The classification is revised annually before the season begins.

Risks

Small streams on both sides of the beach discharge wastewater from scattered settlements, creating periods of elevated faecal bacteria. Swimming is not recommended near the stream outlets. Water quality deteriorates during and up to 24 hours after heavy rainfall. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms is low but possible. Risk of phytoplankton blooms is low but possible. Macroalgae (seaweed) may wash ashore; swimming near large accumulations is not recommended. Glass shards and litter can occur at the beach.
