Lyshøj Allé is a pleasant, family-friendly beach located near the city centre with a large green area leading down to the shore. The beach is 70 metres long and features a large bathing pier with a ramp leading into the water. Fine sand beach is present beside the pier. Shallow water with gentle depth increase makes it suitable for families.

Water

Brackish water in Kolding Fjord. Water depth increases gradually from shore, approximately 2 metres deep at the end of the bathing pier. Depth varies with tidal changes. Mussel banks are present close to the coast.

Location

Kolding, Denmark. Address: Fjordvej 120, 6000 Kolding. Large parking area available. Beach number G570.

Facilities

Parking area, toilet facilities (summer season only), large bathing pier with ramp access to water, rubbish bins, lifeguard rescue ring (summer season).

Season

Monitoring conducted during the bathing season. Classification reviewed annually in May before the bathing season starts.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality in 2020 based on routine sampling from 2016-2019. Monitoring conducted for E. coli and enterococci bacteria during the bathing season. Generally very good water quality under normal conditions. Electronic warning sign on beach displays red light if water quality risk detected.

Risks

Two sewage overflow structures located near the beach that may discharge during heavy rainfall. Risk of harmful cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low but possible during prolonged warm periods. Risk of harmful phytoplankton blooms is low but possible. Macroalgae (seaweed) may wash up along the waterline. Glass shards and litter may occur. Water quality may be affected during and immediately after heavy rainfall.
