Elvig Høj

Elvig Høj is a 250-meter-long beach located in an undisturbed and scenic area surrounded by tall trees with views over the fjord. The northern part of the beach features a large green area leading to a natural beach with fine sand. The beach is situated on Kolding Fjord where the water is classified as brackish.

Water

Kolding Fjord, brackish water. Water depth increases gradually from the shore and is under 2 metres approximately 200 metres from the coast. Tidal variations affect water depth.

Address: Elvighøjvej 1, 6000 Kolding, Denmark. Parking is available near the beach. The beach is designated as G505.

Facilities

Parking, basic toilet facilities, rescue equipment (life ring).

Season

Routine monitoring occurs during the bathing season. Classification is reviewed annually in May before the season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality classification in 2020: Excellent. Classification based on routine monitoring samples taken regularly during the bathing season over the preceding four years (2016-2019). Monitoring measures E. coli and enterococci concentrations. Classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Low risk of fecal pollution as there are no known sewage outflows or watercourses in the area. Low risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton blooms, though they can occur. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation at the water's edge. Glass shards and litter can occur on the beach. Sudden pollution from incidents such as recreational vessels, manure tanks, or sewage lines is possible.
