Cyprus Coastal 1 - Excellent

Dassoudi 1 is a sandy beach located in Limassol District, Cyprus, extending 390 metres with an almost straight coastline. The beach sits between Dassoudi 2 to the west and Amathus to the east, backed by dense eucalyptus and coniferous woodland. Tourism and recreational facilities operate seasonally during summer months. Three stone breakwaters positioned approximately 140 metres offshore provide wave protection and prevent sand erosion. The seabed consists of sandy material.

Water

Sandy beach within the Limassol East coastal water body. Length: 390 metres. Average water depth: 1.5 metres. Maximum water depth: 2.5 metres. Seabed composition: sand. The coastal zone is semi-natural with three submerged stone breakwaters constructed parallel to the shoreline approximately 140 metres offshore.

Location

Located in Limassol District, Germasogeia Municipality, Cyprus. Positioned east of Dassoudi 2 beach and west of Amathus beach. The Limassol Avenue runs inland along the beach, with numerous residential buildings, hotels and recreational facilities on both sides of the road.

Facilities

Public facilities available for public service. Toilets accessible to swimmers through both public installations and recreational area facilities in the coastal zone. Waste collection bins located along the entire beach, maintained by Germasogeia Municipality. Seasonal services including sun loungers and umbrellas available during summer months.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal body to which it belongs is in good ecological status. Monitoring according to Directive 76/160/EEC has been conducted since Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004. One isolated pollution incident was recorded during the 2007 bathing season. No short-term pollution incidents were recorded during the 2008-2010 bathing seasons.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development. Small risk of short-term pollution events occurring approximately once per bathing season lasting 1-2 days. Possible sources include stormwater runoff and passing vessels. Agricultural runoff and seepage from cultivated areas along the Germasogeia River, which discharges 150 metres east of the beach. Commercial vessel traffic offshore and recreational vessel mooring and transit in the western section of the beach.
