Cyprus Coastal 1 - Excellent

Dasoudhi 2 is a wide sandy beach with a nearly straight coastline located in the Limassol district of Cyprus. The beach is bordered by Ag. Georgios Frangoudi 1 to the east and Dasoudhi 1 to the west. A dense grove of eucalyptus and coniferous trees lines the upper part of the sandy shore, with a pedestrian promenade and earth pathways constructed through it. The Limassol Avenue runs inland along the beach, with numerous residential buildings, hotels, and tourism infrastructure on both sides.

Water

Coastal marine water body named Limassol East (CY_14-C2). The beach is 710 metres long with an average water depth of 1 metre and a maximum depth of 2.5 metres. The seabed is composed of sandy material. Five submerged rubble breakwaters are located approximately 120 metres from the shoreline running parallel to it. A wooden pier approximately 50 metres long extends from the southwestern end of the littoral zone, anchored to the seabed by pilings. A small rubble breakwater also exists at the northeastern end.

Location

Located in the Germasogeia Municipality, Limassol District, Cyprus. The beach is situated east of Dasoudhi 1 and west of Ag. Georgios Frangoudi 1 beach.

Facilities

No public facilities are available on the beach. Toilets are available through the food service area and hotel located in the coastal zone. Waste collection bins are present along the entire length of the beach, maintained by the Germasogeia Municipality.

Water Quality

Water quality has been classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal water body is in good ecological status. Monitoring has been conducted for many years, with formal monitoring reports prepared according to Directive 76/160/EEC since Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004.

Risks

Moderate risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication development. Possible pollution sources include stormwater runoff from the heavily urbanized inland zone and industrial area, as well as passage and mooring of commercial and recreational vessels. No short-term pollution incidents were recorded during the 2008-2010 swimming seasons. Risk of short-term pollution is negligible, with likely sources being stormwater runoff and passing ships, occurring approximately once per swimming season for 1-2 days.
