Albuen is a bathing beach located on the north side of Vejle Fjord approximately 3 km east of Vejle city. The beach extends approximately 200 meters and consists of white sand and small stones, roughly 20 meters wide, with a mowed grass area behind it. The water has relatively low depth. The bathing water is classified as excellent based on data from 2018–2021.

Location

North side of Vejle Fjord, approximately 3 km east of Vejle city, Denmark. Parking available at the beach (station number 9235).

Parking available. Warning sign at parking area indicates bathing restrictions if necessary.

Season

Official monitoring season: 1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent (based on 2018–2021 data). Monitoring conducted during bathing season (1 June to 15 September). Water quality samples are taken by the municipality during the bathing season. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms exists, typically occurring after heavy rainfall followed by warm periods. Risk of phytoplankton growth is small, highest in late summer. Seaweed (macroalgae) may occur at the water edge. Short-term pollution may occur from combined sewer overflows during heavy prolonged rain, typically lasting no more than 3 days.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms can occur and are indicated by cloudy discolored water, foam formation, and possible dead animals. Seaweed accumulations at the water edge; bathing is discouraged near large quantities of washed-up seaweed as toxins can form in decaying seaweed and bacteria are protected from UV rays, allowing longer survival. Phytoplankton risk is small, highest in late summer. Combined sewer overflow during heavy rain can cause short-term pollution. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
