Ibæk Strand (Munkebjerg) is a bathing beach located on the south side of Vejle Fjord approximately 5 kilometres east of Vejle city. The beach is approximately 100 metres long and consists of an area with larger stones and a bathing pier with relatively shallow water depth. The bathing water is classified as excellent based on data from 2018–2021.

Location

Located on the south side of Vejle Fjord approximately 5 kilometres east of Vejle city in Denmark. Information about parking availability is indicated on parking areas during periods of risk for algal blooms.

Monitoring season: 1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Bathing water is classified as excellent (based on data from 2018–2021). Water quality is monitored during the bathing season from 1 June to 15 September. Fecal pollution from bathers is not considered significant due to rapid water exchange. Pollution from grazing livestock and slurry application is not considered significant.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacterial (blue-green algae) blooms, particularly in late summer and following periods of heavy rain with warm conditions. Macroalgae (seaweed) can occur at the beach edge; bathing is discouraged near large accumulations due to potential toxin formation and protection of disease-causing bacteria from UV rays. Risk of phytoplankton growth is considered small, greatest in late summer. Short-term pollution from combined sewer overflows possible during heavy sustained rainfall, typically lasting maximum 3 days. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills occasionally occur. Signs of algal blooms include unclear discoloured water, foam formation, and potentially dead animals.
