Andkær Vig is a bathing beach located on the north side of Vejle Fjord, approximately 3 km east of Vejle city. The beach extends approximately 200 meters and consists of white sand and small stones, approximately 20 meters wide, with a mowed grass area behind it. The water has relatively low depth. The bathing water is classified as excellent based on data from 2018–2021.

North side of Vejle Fjord, approximately 3 km east of Vejle city. UTM zone 32; east 541159; north 6171873.

Season

Monitoring season: 1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Bathing water classified as excellent (based on 2018–2021 data). Water quality is monitored from 1 June to 15 September. Water visibility is measured during sampling. Short-term pollution from heavy rainfall can occur, typically lasting a maximum of 3 days after rain ceases. Pollution from bathers and grazing livestock is not considered significant. Rapid water exchange occurs at this location.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms, occurring most often after heavy rainfall followed by warm periods. Signs include unclear discolored water, foam formation, and dead animals. Algae produce toxic substances causing headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea upon contact. Children and immunocompromised individuals are particularly vulnerable. Macroalgae (seaweed) can occur at the beach edge; bathing is discouraged near large accumulations. Toxic substances can form in decomposing seaweed, and seaweed provides protection for disease-causing bacteria from UV rays. Risk of phytoplankton growth is small, greatest in late summer. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills occasionally occur.
