Albuen is a 150-metre-long bathing beach in Nakskov, Denmark, located on a peninsula leading to Albuen and facing Langelandsbæltet. The beach comprises fine sand with small stones at the water's edge, backed by a dike in a scenic natural area with unique flora and fauna. The water is classified as brackish and the beach is part of a wider sandy landscape with shallow underwater conditions.

Water

Brackish water body in Langelandsbæltet. The beach is 150 metres long and 10–15 metres wide. Water depth is under 2 metres approximately 200 metres from the shore. The seabed comprises sand with scattered small stones. Current direction is variable with no dominant direction.

Location

The beach is located near Albuen Strand Camping in Nakskov, accessed via Vesternæsvej which terminates at a parking area adjacent to the beach.

Facilities

Toilet facilities, parking area, lifeguard rescue ring, first aid kit, waste bins, Blue Flag designation with information signage.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2022: Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples taken during the bathing season 2018–2021, analysed for indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci. The classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of seaweed (macroalgae) wash-up at the water's edge. Possible occurrence of glass shards and litter. Very low risk of chemical pollution such as oil spills. Treated wastewater from Nakskov treatment plant is discharged 900 metres south of the beach through a 1000-metre concrete pipe, but extensive dilution in Langelandsbæltet prevents impact on bathing water quality within the beach boundary.
