Bukkemose is a 750-metre-long beach on the east coast of Langeland, located at a summer house area overlooking Langelandsbælt. The beach is primarily covered with fine sand and scattered stones of various sizes, with medium-sized stones at the water's edge and large stone breakwaters running perpendicular to the shore. The seabed consists of fine sand, in places covered with small and medium-sized stones, and is 15–20 metres wide.

Water

Brackish water in Langelandsbælt. Water depth is less than 2 metres within 150 metres of the shore. Primary current direction comes from the north. The beach is 750 metres long and 15–20 metres wide.

Location

Bukkemose is located on Langeland's east coast at the Bukkemose summer house area, facing Langelandsbælt. Access to the beach is via Ståvænget, which leads to a car park with accompanying toilet facilities. A golf course and 'Haus und Boot Camping' are situated west of the summer house area.

Car park, toilet facilities with drinking water, bins, and a warning sign for reduced bathing water quality.

Water Quality

The bathing water at Bukkemose is classified as Excellent quality and meets required standards. Classification is based on routine sampling for faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci) during the bathing season. Classification is calculated from samples taken regularly between 2007–2010 and is revised annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

The stream Skovly has an outfall 200 metres north of the beach and carries risk of high faecal bacteria concentrations in certain periods. The stream Tangrenden has an outfall 250 metres south of the beach and typically only influences water quality during heavy rainfall. A combined sewer overflow outlet is located in the middle of the beach and discharges during periods of heavy rain when the summer house sewage network is overloaded. Low risk of cyanobacterial blooms and phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large seaweed washup. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
