Alter Rhein in Lustenau is a bathing site located in the area of the original course of the Rhine River. Since the Rhine breakthrough at Diepoldsau in 1923, the original flowing water body has become an old arm and functions as a still water body. The area is designated as a biotope worthy of protection in the Vorarlberg State Biotope Inventory, featuring an old channel section with well-developed vegetation succession from open water surface through various succession stages to gallery forest.
