Kampoura Sand is a bathing area located in an isolated rocky bay on the island of Cyprus. The beach is predominantly rocky with a small sandy shore at its centre. It is a relatively remote location with minimal development, featuring natural vegetation of low shrubs and scattered trees near buildings. The beach is 350 metres long with an average water depth of 0.8 metres and a maximum depth of 2 metres.

Coastal marine water body named Ayia Napa. The seabed is predominantly rocky with small sandy areas between rocks and at greater depths. The shoreline is lined with limited meadows of Posidonia oceanica seagrass. Beach length: 350 metres. Average water depth: 0.8 metres. Maximum water depth: 2 metres.

Location

The bathing area is located in Ayia Napa municipality in Famagusta province, Cyprus. A coastal road passes nearby. The monitoring point is positioned at the centre of the beach where the main concentration of swimmers is typically found.

Facilities

Public toilets. Umbrellas and sunbeds available for hire. Waste collection bins. Lifeguard service with rescue equipment available from 10:00 to 18:00. Beach cleaning maintained by Ayia Napa municipality. Blue Flag designation.

Season

Monitoring season covers the annual swimming period. Southwestern winds predominate during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data. The coastal water body is in good ecological status. The area has been designated as a Blue Flag beach. An isolated pollution incident was recorded during the 2007 swimming season with no identifiable source. No short-term pollution incidents were recorded during the 2008–2010 swimming seasons. Low risk of macroalgae and phytoplankton eutrophication.

Risks

Passing and moored recreational vessels represent a potential source of pollution. Short-term pollution risk is low with an estimated frequency of once per swimming season and typical duration of 1–2 days.
