Limnara is a small sandy beach located in a rocky cove in Agia Napa, Cyprus. The beach is approximately 220 metres long and is fronted largely by a large hotel complex. The shoreline is modified with stabilising breakwaters and wave breakers. Ornamental vegetation and palm trees are present. The beach has been designated with Blue Flag status.

Water

Coastal waters in the Agia Napa water body (CY_24-C3), Cyprus. Average water depth is 0.8 metres, with a maximum depth of 2 metres. The beach is situated in a rocky bay.

Location

Agia Napa, in the Famagusta district. Access is available via the adjacent hotel or via a pedestrian walkway connecting to neighbouring beaches. Coordinates: 34.0402E, 34.9729N (ETRS89).

Facilities

Lifeguard service with lifesaving equipment operates from 10:00 to 18:00. Toilets are available at the adjacent hotel facilities. Umbrellas and sunbeds are offered. Waste collection bins are present. Blue Flag designation.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on monitoring data since Cyprus joined the European Union in 2004. The coastal body of water is in good ecological status. The bathing water is monitored continuously.

Risks

Recreational boats moor at the eastern boundary of the beach and are a possible pollution source. Short-term pollution risk is low, with one incident recorded between 2008 and 2010. Possible sources include passing and moored vessels and malfunction of wastewater systems in coastal developments. Low risk of eutrophication from macroalgae and phytoplankton.
