Hulhøj

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Hulhøj is a fine sand beach on northern Mors, approximately 500 metres long and 8 metres wide on average, with an admixture of small stones. The seabed consists primarily of fine sand and small stones. The beach is situated about 1 kilometre from Feggesundvej and is accessible via the public road Hulhøjen with good parking facilities.

Water

Saltwater in Limfjorden. The dominant current direction at the bathing water station is from the south. Approximately 140 metres from the shore is required to reach a water depth of 2 metres.

Location

Northern Mors, approximately 1 kilometre from Feggesundvej, accessed via the public road Hulhøjen. Good parking is available at the beach.

Facilities

Toilet at the beach entrance, tables and benches, rescue ring.

Season

Routine monitoring occurs during the bathing water season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Good, based on routine control samples analysed for E. coli and enterococcus bacteria during the bathing season from 2013 to 2016. The classification is reviewed annually before the start of the bathing season. Sejerslev Bæk discharges just north of the beach and is periodically affected by wastewater from Sejerslev Treatment Plant and storm water overflows from Sejerslev during rain events.

Risks

Wastewater-affected discharge from Sejerslev Bæk just north of the beach during certain periods. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms, though they can occur during prolonged warm periods with nutrient-rich water. Low risk of large quantities of seaweed (macroalgae) washing ashore. Glass fragments, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occur at the beach. Sudden contamination may arise from ship accidents, pleasure boats, and sewage pipe failures.
