Lithuania Lake 1 - Excellent

Ančios ežero maudykla is a public bathing area located on Lake Ančia in the Lazdijų district of Lithuania. The beach is 30 metres long with sand composition and semi-natural shoreline characteristics. The bathing water has demonstrated excellent quality from 2018 to 2024 according to EU Directive 2006/7/EB standards. The beach accommodates approximately 100 visitors during peak season under favorable weather conditions.

Water

Lake Ančia. Average water depth 1 metre, maximum depth 3 metres. Annual average precipitation in the basin 550 millimetres. Highest precipitation occurs in October, lowest in September. Water body type 2 classification. Ecological status is moderate; fails to meet good ecological status/good ecological potential requirements. Classified as a water body at risk.

Lazdijų district, Lazdijų municipality, Veisiejai administrative district (seniūnija), Lithuania. Monitoring coordinates: X=54.0983, Y=23.6940. An outdoor toilet is located 200 metres from the beach.

Facilities

Bicycle paths and pedestrian trails on the beach. Outdoor toilet located 200 metres from the beach. Waste containers provided. Waste collection operates under a waste management contract. Pets are prohibited.

Water Quality

Water quality has been excellent from 2018 to 2024. A short-term pollution event occurred on 15 July 2021 when enterococci levels exceeded permitted limits under Lithuanian hygiene standard HN 92:2018. The elevated contamination was attributed to pollution not originating from specific pollution sources. Water characteristics are updated annually or if quality changes from excellent to good, satisfactory, or poor.

Risks

Possible surface runoff from rainwater during heavy rainfall and poor weather conditions. Potential pollution from nearby residential activities. No special protection areas designated for wild bird protection.
