Anholt Vesterstrand is a fine sandy beach approximately 1.1 km long and 40 metres wide located immediately south of Anholt Harbour on the island of Anholt. The seabed consists of sand with few stones and sand ridges. The distance from the beach edge to a depth of 2 metres is approximately 75–100 metres. The bathing water has been classified as excellent quality, the best possible classification. Water temperature varies between 9.8 °C and 20.3 °C during the bathing season.

Water

Saltwater beach approximately 1.1 km long and 40 metres wide. The seabed is sandy with few stones and sand ridges. Distance from the beach edge to 2 metres depth is approximately 75–100 metres.

Location

Anholt Vesterstrand is located on the island of Anholt, immediately south of Anholt Harbour. Access to the beach is from the road 'Gennem Landet'. A path past Sailor House leads to the beach. Bicycle and car parking are available at Sailor House.

Facilities

Larger car park; toilet and bathroom at the car park (Sailor House, marina facility building); rescue posts stationed at the beach; information signage; beach volleyball court; harbour/marina.

Season

Bathing season water temperature varies between 9.8 °C and 20.3 °C. Dogs must be kept on a leash on the beach from 1 April to 30 September.

Water Quality

Bathing water classification: Excellent quality. Water quality classification is based on regular control samples taken over the preceding 4-year period, with analyses of E. coli and enterococci included. Possible sources of short-term pollution include faecal contamination from scattered settlement sewage, manure spillage, and emptying of toilet tanks from recreational boats; blue-green algae (risk assessed as low due to high salinity); other microscopic algae (rare mass occurrences); and chemical pollution from shipping accidents (assessed as low risk). Oxygen depletion has not been recorded in coastal waters at Anholt Vesterstrand.

Risks

Possible short-term pollution sources include faecal contamination from scattered settlement sewage, manure spillage, and emptying of toilet tanks from boats. Risk of blue-green algae blooms is low due to high salinity, with risk concentrated in late summer. Risk of microscopic algae blooms is low. Risk of large amounts of washed-up seaweed is low. Chemical pollution from shipping accidents is assessed as low risk. Pacific oysters (invasive species) have not been registered at Anholt Vesterstrand. Pollen accumulations are not a known local phenomenon.
