Zona Convento (formerly Località Convento) is a bathing area on Lago di Barrea, a reservoir lake in the Abruzzo region. The beach is one of three designated bathing areas on the lake, all located in the municipality of Barrea. The bathing zone has an area of 0.385 km² and is situated at 955 metres above sea level. The surrounding area is characterised by small accommodation structures connected to summer tourism.

Lago di Barrea (Lake Barrea), a reservoir lake managed by ENEL GREEN POWER S.p.A. as a dam lake. Area: 0.385 km². Altitude: 955 metres above sea level.

Location

Municipality of Barrea, Province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo region. The lake is enclosed within the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park and is bordered by regional and provincial roads. The beach has an average width of 40 metres.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. No pollution sources have been identified. No particular measures or specific monitoring programmes are currently activated.

Risks

Short-duration pollution events could potentially be caused by accidental failure of the Barrea treatment plant or by increased water inflow to the treatment plant. Cyanobacteria blooms have not been observed. No proliferation events of macroalgae, phytoplankton, or potentially toxic species have been recorded.
