As Vig Strand is a bathing beach located at the southern end of As Vig near a church in Hedensted Municipality. The beach features a 10–20 metre wide sandy strand with a large grass recreation area. The water has a sandy bottom with shallow depth extending to the first reef. The bathing water is classified as excellent, representing the highest water quality category.

Water

As Vig is a coastal inlet approximately 2.5 kilometres long on the eastern Jutland coast between Horsens Fjord and Vejle Fjord. Water depth at the bathing area is approximately 2 metres at 50–100 metres from the shore, increasing to 10 metres at 700–1,000 metres offshore and 12 metres at the deepest point. Salinity ranges from 16–24 psu. Summer water temperature ranges from 14–21 degrees Celsius.

Location

As Vig Strand is located at the southern end of As Vig on the eastern coast of Jutland in Hedensted Municipality, Denmark, near the church at Kirkholm. A large parking area is available. A grocer is located 1,000 metres from the beach. A bathing pier is situated 300 metres to the north.

Facilities

Toilets (summer season), picnic tables and benches, waste bins, rescue triangle, large parking area, bathing pier 300 metres to the north, grocer 1,000 metres from the beach. Disabled parking available near the water but no accessible access to the water.

Monitoring and analyses are conducted throughout the entire bathing season.

Water Quality

The bathing water at As Vig Strand is classified as excellent, the highest water quality classification. This classification is based on bathing water analyses from the previous four years. No microbial contamination from faecal sources has been detected in the analyses.

Risks

Algal blooms can occur during warm, sunny and calm weather periods, particularly in July and August. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms spreading from the Baltic Sea along the eastern Jutland coast during warm, calm periods with easterly winds. Seaweed (macroalgae) can be washed ashore during rough weather and onshore winds, causing aesthetic problems and foul odours.
