Færgemolen Juelsminde

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Færgemolen Juelsminde is a bathing spot located centrally in Juelsminde town, comprising a bathing bridge at an old ferry site and a small sand beach approximately 70 metres long and 10 metres wide. The beach is flanked by recreational boat harbours on both sides. The bathing water is classified as excellent, the highest water quality category. Summer water temperatures range from 14 to 21 degrees Celsius.

Water

Coastal water body with sandy bottom. Water depth varies from shallow near the beach to 2–6 metres close to the shore. Salinity ranges from 16–24 psu. The bathing area is part of the main catchment of Horsens Fjord and coastal waters from Endelave and Norsminde Fjord.

Location

Juelsminde, located on the eastern coast of Jutland in Hedensted Municipality between Horsens Fjord and Vejle Fjord. Access is available from the main approach road to Juelsminde town. A large car park is available. Bus connections are available.

Bathing water quality is monitored throughout the bathing season.

Water Quality

Bathing water is classified as excellent, the highest quality category. Water quality analyses are conducted throughout the bathing season. No fecal contamination has been detected in analyses. Point sources of pollution including treatment plant malfunctions, rainwater system discharges, and boat toilet tank emptying have been assessed and do not pose a risk to water quality. Nutrient and pesticide leaching from agricultural land in the catchment area occurs but does not directly impair bathing water quality.

Risks

Risk of algal blooms during periods of warm, sunny, and calm weather, particularly in July and August. Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) from the Baltic Sea may spread into the area during warm periods with easterly winds. Risk of seaweed accumulation and washup on the beach during rough weather and onshore winds, which can create aesthetic problems and unpleasant odours for swimmers.
