Sandbjerg Vig is a bathing beach located at the bottom of Sandbjerg Vig bay on the main road between Horsens and Juelsminde in Hedensted Municipality, on the east coast of Jutland. The sandy beach extends 1300 metres and features a 10-metre-wide sand strand with a large grassed recreational area. The beach has a sandy bottom with shallow water extending to the first reef. The water temperature in summer ranges from 14 to 21 degrees Celsius.

Water

Sandbjerg Vig is a bay approximately 5 kilometres wide located between Horsens Fjord and Vejle Fjord. Water depth at the bathing area is approximately 2 metres 30–50 metres from the shore. The deepest point, approximately 1300 metres from the coast, reaches approximately 10 metres. Salinity ranges from 16–24 psu. Sandy bottom with shallow water to the first reef.

Location

Sandbjerg Vig, north of Juelsminde between Horsens and Juelsminde on the main road. Large parking area available. Bus connection available. Kiosk/tank located 1000 metres from the beach.

Bathing season with regular water quality monitoring and analysis.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent, the highest bathing water quality category. Classification is based on bathing water analyses from the previous 4 years. Monitoring is conducted throughout the bathing season with results available on the municipality's website.

Risks

Risk of seaweed wash-up during rough weather and onshore winds. Risk of algal blooms when there is sufficient light, nutrients, and warm temperatures, particularly during periods of relative calm weather. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) reaching the bathing area during warm, sunny, windless periods in the eastern Baltic with easterly winds that carry algae along the east Jutland coast. Nutrient leaching from agricultural areas in the catchment may influence algal growth.
