Juelsminde Storstrand is a large sandy beach located centrally in Juelsminde town on the east coast of Jutland at Vejel Fjord. The beach is 250 metres long with a 20-metre-wide sandy shoreline and is bounded to the north by a harbour and to the south by private areas. A large grassy recreational area lies behind the beach. The seabed is sandy, with depth increasing relatively quickly and potential for strong currents near coastal protection structures.

Water

Coastal sea water at Vejel Fjord. Sandy seabed with depths varying between 2 and 6 metres near the shore. Water temperature in summer ranges from 10–22 degrees Celsius. Salinity ranges from 16–24 PSU. Strong currents may occur near coastal protection structures depending on wind conditions and tidal forces.

Location

Juelsminde, Hedensted Municipality, east coast of Jutland. The beach is centrally located in Juelsminde town, positioned near a harbour, marina, and campsite. Parking spaces are available.

Toilets, bathing jetty, parking spaces, benches, information board, minigolf at the harbour, kiosk at the harbour, lifeguard triangle.

Season

Monitoring occurs throughout the bathing season. Water quality is analysed continuously during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as 'excellent', the highest classification possible. Classification is based on bathing water analysis data from the preceding four years. Analysis shows no fecal contamination of the bathing water.

Risks

Risk of algal blooms, particularly during periods with adequate light, nutrients, heat, and calm weather. Cyanobacteria blooms from the Baltic Sea can spread to the beach during warm, sunny, calm periods with easterly winds. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) being washed ashore during rough weather and onshore winds, causing aesthetic problems and potential oxygen depletion from decomposition.
