Asnæsværket

Asnæsværket is a sandy beach approximately 430 metres long and 20 metres wide, located in Kalundborg Municipality, Denmark. The beach features some eelgrass and macroalgae, with sand and small stones at the water's edge. A 100-metre zone of marram grass and grasses lies behind the beach. The beach is classified as Excellent based on measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli from 2018–2021.

Water

Saltwater beach with no clearly dominant flow direction. The beach is approximately 430 metres long and 20 metres wide, with sand and smaller stones at the water's edge.

Location

Located on the west side of Asnæsværket industrial facility in Kalundborg Municipality. Access is via a parking area from which a path leads through a park-like setting and a sand trail through sea buckthorn and brambles to the beach. The nearby town is Kalundborg.

Facilities

Toilet at the western end of the beach. Life ring (rescue ring) located mid-beach.

Season

Monitoring occurs minimum 4 times per year. The classification section is revised annually in November after the bathing season ends.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Measurements of intestinal enterococci and E. coli from 2018–2021 confirm this classification. Kalundborg Municipality has no information about drains, watercourses, or other sources near the beach that could cause faecal pollution, so the risk is assessed as very low.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms during certain periods. Risk of large amounts of macroalgae at the beach edge, which can pose health risks and promote bacterial growth. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution may occasionally occur.
