Avbæk is a bathing beach located on the southern side of Løjt Land at Aabenraa Fjord. The beach is approximately 150 meters long with a varying width of 6–8 meters. The seabed consists of mixed sand and soft bottom areas with mussel banks and eelgrass. Water depth is very shallow, requiring approximately 250 meters from the shoreline before reaching a depth of around 5 meters.

Aabenraa Fjord. The beach extends approximately 150 meters with a width of 6–8 meters. The seabed is mixed sand and soft bottom with mussel banks and eelgrass. Water is very shallow, reaching approximately 5 meters depth at 250 meters from the shoreline.

Location

The beach is located at Aabenraa Fjord on the southern side of Løjt Land. A scout hut called Avbækhytten is situated close to the beach. Approximately 600 meters from the beach is Aabæk Folk High School. A parking area is available at the beach with a rescue station, warning board, tables and benches, grills and fire pits, and waste bins.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality. Classification is based on control samples taken regularly during 2019–2022. Water quality at the monitoring station is good. The area has low pollution risk from the outflow of Stenbjerg Møllebæk and surrounding areas.

Risks

Cyanobacteria blooms can occur, typically after heavy rainfall followed by warm periods. Large quantities of macroalgae (kelp) can occur at the shoreline. Risk of occasional contamination from seepage of wastewater from individual properties and non-communal sewage areas during heavy rainfall. Sudden contamination from incidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, and sewage pipes is possible. Glass shards, litter, and chemical contamination including oil spills can occasionally occur.
