Dyrhave is a bathing beach located on the southern side of Løjt Land at Aabenraa Fjord in Denmark. The beach is approximately 150 metres long with varying width of 1 to 5 metres, consisting of a smaller sandy area with unmaintained grass and small stones. The water is very shallow, with depths under 2.5 metres extending about 175 metres from the shore. The beach has a sandy bottom with small stones in the water's edge. Water quality is classified as excellent based on control samples from 2019–2022.

Location

Facilities

Information board at parking area. The beach is monitored seasonally with information displayed at the warning board regarding water quality and risks.

Season

The bathing season runs from 1 June to 1 September. Water quality classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification based on control samples taken regularly during 2019–2022. Samples taken at the monitoring station show excellent quality. The Dyrhave stream discharges onto the beach; however, its contribution to pollution is assessed as relatively low. Greatest pollution risk occurs during strong winds and heavy rain.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria blooms, typically occurring after heavy rainfall periods with nutrient leaching followed by warm weather. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can accumulate at the beach edge, and bathing is not recommended near such accumulations. Signs of cyanobacteria bloom include discoloured water, foam formation, and dead animals. Potential short-term pollution from heavy rain and wind may cause wastewater discharge from scattered uncloaked properties in the hinterland, typically lasting maximum 3 days. Additional risks include occasional occurrences of broken glass, litter, and chemical pollution such as oil spills.
