Azarujinha is a small and sheltered urban beach surrounded by cliffs, located at the end of the Costa do Estoril promenade in Cascais. Access is available via the promenade or by a long staircase on the cliff that connects to the coastal road.

Cascais municipality. Situated at the end of the Costa do Estoril promenade. Accessible by promenade or long cliff staircase leading to the coastal road. Coordinates: LAT 38.700632°, LONG -9.389408° (ETRS89).

Season

May 1st to October 15th, 2024. Weekly sampling frequency.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2023 was conducted according to Decreto-Lei 135/09 (June 3rd), as amended by Decreto-Lei 113/2012 (May 23rd). Bathing was advised against or prohibited on 1 day during the 2023 bathing season due to short-term pollution events.

Risks

Short-term pollution events (lasting less than 72 hours) are possible but rare, potentially caused by excessive rainfall drainage flow or sewerage network failure. Potential microbiological pollution sources include surface water drainage network (3 discharge points) and the São João do Estoril pumping station. Cyanobacteria, macroalgae, and phytoplankton proliferation are all unlikely.
