Badeanstalten i Augustenborg Fjord is a fine sand beach approximately 100 metres long and 2–11 metres wide, located in Augustenborg, Denmark. The beach features a bathing pier and is backed by Augustenborg Park, agricultural land, and a campsite. The seabed consists of sand with scattered large stones, with a water depth of 0.5 metres approximately 5 metres from shore and 1 metre depth approximately 10 metres from shore. The water is brackish with salinity of 16–24 ‰. The beach has been classified as excellent based on four years of monitoring data.

Marine brackish water body (Augustenborg Fjord). Salinity 16–24 ‰. Beach approximately 100 metres long and 2–11 metres wide. Seabed of sand with scattered large stones. Water depth of 0.5 metres approximately 5 metres from shore; 1 metre depth approximately 10 metres from shore. Current direction typically follows the coastline in both westerly/north-westerly and easterly/south-easterly directions.

Location

Augustenborg, Denmark. Access is via a forest path east of the parking area at Hertugbyens Camping (Ny Stavensbøl 1) or via paths through Augustenborg Park from Augustenborg town. Parking is available at the campsite.

Facilities

Benches, waste bins, changing rooms with broad veranda. Bathing pier present. No lifeguards, toilets, showers, or disabled access facilities mentioned.

Season

1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Monitoring conducted from 1 June to 15 September by laboratory analysis of E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Analysis results from the last four years show no exceedances of limit values for faecal colibacteria. Primary risk of faecal pollution is from storm water overflow during heavy rainfall and from incorrect connections in separate sewer systems.

Risks

Small risk of storm water-related contamination during heavy rainfall with potential time delay before visibility. Small risk of seaweed (macroalgae) wash-up; bathing is generally discouraged during large quantities of seaweed due to potential toxin formation in decaying seaweed and survival of pathogenic bacteria. Very low risk of cyanobacteria/blue-green algae blooms; none observed on this beach. Low risk of phytoplankton bloom during bathing season.
