Lambjerglund

Lambjerglund is a bathing beach approximately 300 metres long and about 1 metre wide at low tide, situated on Hørup Hav in Sønderborg Bay. The beach floor consists of stones and seaweed growth, with a distance of approximately 10 metres to reach a water depth of 1 metre. The water is brackish with salinity levels between 16–24‰. Bathing bridges are available for access. The beach is adjacent to a protected nature area and a Natura 2000 habitat zone, and is frequently used for walking and dog exercise.

Water

Marine brackish water body (Hørup Hav in Sønderborg Bay) with salinity of 16–24‰. Dominant water currents flow in westerly, southwesterly, southerly, or easterly directions, occasionally northerly. Current direction is influenced by water exchange between Hørup Hav and Sønderborg Bay and typically follows the coastline.

Location

Located in Sønderborg Municipality in the Lambjerglund summer house area, with access from the Lambjerg Indtægt forest via a trail system. The beach address for emergency services is Lundvej 110, 6470 Sydals.

Season

Official monitoring and bathing season runs from 1 June to 15 September.

Water Quality

Bathing water is classified as excellent. Monitoring is conducted from 1 June to 15 September by laboratory analysis for indicator bacteria E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Analysis results from the last four years show no exceedances of faecal coliform limit values. Potential fæcal pollution sources include individual households with wastewater overflow or diffuse surface water inflow from nearby fields. Possible contamination is typically brief, lasting a maximum of three days due to rapid dispersal by currents.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria bloom is very low with no previous observation on this beach. Risk of phytoplankton bloom in the bathing season (1 June–15 September) is low. Seaweed (macroalgae) wash-up may occur but has not caused reduced bathing water quality; however, decomposing seaweed can produce toxins and harbour disease-causing bacteria. During heavy rainfall, there may be a small time delay before any potential pollution becomes visible.
