The beach offers excellent views over Svanevig and Sakskøbing Fjord. The water is classified as brackish and remains shallow, with depths under 2 metres extending far from the shore. Bathing in the harbour and its entrance channel is prohibited due to sudden depth increases.

Location

Bandholm, a small town with approximately 700 residents in Denmark. The bathing facility is located at Bandholm Harbour adjacent to the Askø ferry terminal. Access is via Havnepladsen, which leads to the bathing facility's car park.

Facilities

Parking at the bathing facility car park, toilets, waste bins, lifebelt, and a marked bathing area 20 metres long indicated by a blue line.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2022: Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples analysed for E. coli and enterococci bacteria collected regularly during the bathing season from 2018–2021. The classification is reviewed annually before the start of the bathing season.

Risks

Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms. Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation in the water at the jetty edge. Sudden depth increase east of the beach at the harbour entrance channel. Glass shards and litter may occur at the beach. Potential for sudden contamination from incidents such as pleasure boat spills, slurry tank leaks, or sewer line failures, though no known fecal pollution sources currently affect the beach. Very low risk of chemical contamination such as oil spills.
