Søndersø is a freshwater lake with no measurable current. The water is shallow at the beach with gradual depth increase. Average depth is 1.7 meters and maximum depth is 5.0 meters.

The bathing area is located near Maribo on Søndersø lake. Access is via Refshalevej road leading to the parking area at Maribo Kajakklub, where toilet facilities are available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2022: Excellent quality. The classification was calculated based on routine samples taken during bathing seasons 2018–2021, with analysis for E. coli and enterococci bacteria. The classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins. General water quality is good with no health risk under normal circumstances.

Risks

A stream 80 meters north of the beach poses risk of high fecal bacterial concentrations and bathing is discouraged at the outlet. Overflow structures can discharge sewage during heavy rainfall, potentially causing temporary water quality degradation. High risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms during warm periods with nutrient-rich water, which can cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. Risk of organic material and aquatic plants washing ashore. Glass shards and litter may occur. Chemical pollution risk is minimal.
