Tårs Skovby is a bathing beach located on Smålandsfarvandet at Tårs Vig in Guldborgsund Municipality. The beach is approximately 300 meters long and less than 10 meters wide, composed of a mixture of sand and stones with a sandy bottom. The area is very shallow, with water depths under 2 meters for the first approximately 1,300 meters from the shore. The beach is classified as excellent water quality based on data from 2011–2014.

Water

Brackish water body in Smålandsfarvandet at Tårs Vig. The beach is approximately 300 meters long and less than 10 meters wide. Water depth is under 2 meters for the first approximately 1,300 meters from the shore. Water temperature during the bathing season ranges from 12–24 °C. Current direction varies but predominantly flows toward the northeast, east-northeast, and west. No known discharge points are located near the beach.

Location

The beach is accessed via Skovbyvej and a side road in the Skovby area of Guldborgsund Municipality. No public transportation serves the beach. Parking is available at the end of the road near the beach. The hinterland consists primarily of agricultural land and scattered settlements, with the Fladet wetland area and Tårs Vig wildlife reserve located to the south.

Season

The official monitoring season runs from 1 May to 1 September, during which the municipality collects at least 6 samples to monitor bathing water quality.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent according to Announcement No. 939 of 18 September 2012. Classification is based on data from 2011–2014. No exceedances of bathing water quality requirements were recorded during this period. The beach is not subject to significant fecal contamination.

Risks

Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms, particularly during prolonged warm, sunny weather with easterly winds. Cyanobacteria produce toxic substances that can cause headaches, skin irritation, fever, nausea, and diarrhea. Accumulation of macroalgae (seaweed) can occur at the shoreline; bathing is not recommended near macroalgae. Glass shards, waste, oil spills, and other chemical pollution can occasionally occur at the beach. Sudden pollution of bathing water may arise from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, and sewage pipes.
