Barsø Landing is a beach approximately 280 metres long with a varying width of 6–10 metres, located on the northern side of Løjt Land adjacent to the Barsø ferry terminal. The beach consists of sand with an unmaintained grass area behind it, and the seabed transitions from sand with small stones at the water's edge to sand further out. Water depth remains under 5 metres within approximately 20 metres from the shoreline. The beach is classified as excellent quality and holds Blue Flag status.

Seabed composition: sand with small stones at the water's edge, transitioning to sand further out. Prevailing current direction is typically northwestern.

Location

Located on the northern side of Løjt Land in immediate connection to the Barsø ferry terminal. Parking is available at the ferry terminal, where an information and warning board, rescue and first aid post, and waste bins are situated. Toilet and telephone access are available in the ferry staff building.

Water Quality

Classification: Excellent quality. Classification is based on control samples taken regularly during 2019–2022. Ten control samples are collected during the bathing season, with results published on the municipality website. Testing is conducted at least four times annually.

Risks

Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms can occur, especially after heavy rainfall followed by warm periods, with signs including discoloured water, foam formation, and dead animals. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can accumulate at the water's edge, which may harbour toxin-producing bacteria and pathogens. The Brøde treatment plant has an outlet in a sea line approximately 350 metres east of the beach at 8 metres depth; contamination risk is greatest during strong easterly winds, easterly current direction, and heavy rainfall, potentially lasting up to 3 days. Sudden contamination from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks, and sewage pipes is possible.
