Kalvø

Kalvø is a bathing beach located on the eastern side of an island in Genner Bay, Denmark. The beach stretches approximately 260 metres and consists of a narrow sandy area with grass, stones and gravel, with small stones present at the water's edge and extending into the water. The island covers 17 hectares and has approximately 10 permanent residents. Kalvø is a popular destination for leisure sailors and other tourists year-round and is served by Kalvø Badehotel as the main commercial establishment.

Water

Seawater in Genner Bay. Water depth is less than 5 metres up to approximately 90 metres from the shoreline. The beach is approximately 260 metres long.

Location

Kalvø Island is located in Genner Bay on its eastern side. Parking is available at the island's entrance and near the hotel. An information board about the island is located on site, where warning notices regarding the bathing beach are posted.

Accessible footpath system around the island, accessible fishing bridge, parking areas at the island entrance and near the hotel, information board with warning notices for the bathing beach.

Season

1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as Excellent based on control samples taken regularly during 2019–2022. Samples taken at the monitoring station show excellent quality. The area's contribution to pollution is assessed as low. There are no known direct discharges from drains or watercourses at the beach.

Risks

Potential brief pollution during strong winds and heavy rainfall, typically lasting a maximum of 3 days. Sudden contamination from accidents involving pleasure boats, slurry tanks and sewage pipes is possible. Cyanobacteria blooms may occur, typically after periods of heavy rain followed by warm weather. Large quantities of macroalgae (seaweed) can occur at the water's edge. Glass shards, waste and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
