Bassona - Sud Foce Bevano is a coastal bathing area located in Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna. The beach has an area of 1.609 km² with a width of 50 metres and is characterized by dunes and coniferous woodland with scattered vegetation in the inland areas. The beach is in equilibrium with no significant erosion. The area experiences medium bather usage.

Location

Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Coordinates: centre 12.3327°E, 44.3435°N. The area extends from 44.3500°N (north) to 44.3362°N (south) and from 12.3287°E to 12.3341°E (west to east). No parking information is provided.

Season

Monitoring seasons: 2015–2018. No short-duration pollution events were recorded during bathing seasons 2015–2018. No anomalous situations occurred during bathing seasons 2015–2018.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2015–2018). Escherichia coli 90th percentile: 18 CFU/100 ml; 95th percentile: 20 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci 90th percentile: 26 CFU/100 ml; 95th percentile: 33 CFU/100 ml. No direct sewage discharges or watercourse inputs into the bathing water area.

Risks

The Bevano torrent mouth is located north of the area and may cause eutrophication. From 2015 to 2018, no phytoplankton blooms (Raphidophyceae Fibrocapsa japonica) were recorded. Macroalgae blooms of Ulva genus occurred in the central-northern coastal stretch during July–August 2018, causing modifications to recreational use of the bathing zone. No cyanobacterial eutrophic phenomena sustained by cyanobacteria have been reported. The area is closed to public access and bathing until 15 July to protect bird nesting.
