Lido di Savio is a sandy bathing beach extending from the South pier of the Savio River mouth to 350 metres south of that pier, located in the Emilia-Romagna region near Ravenna. The beach is 100 metres wide and in equilibrium with regard to erosion. The area experiences medium bather usage and is backed by sparse residential development with scattered vegetation and artificial basins. The beach is subject to sand replenishment interventions.

Water

Coastal marine water in a flat alluvial area with high stability. The bathing area covers 0.317 square kilometres. The water body is part of the Centro-Meridionale Coastal Area.

Location

Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna region, Italy. The bathing area extends from the South pier of the Savio River mouth (Foce fiume Savio) southward for 350 metres. Coordinates: 12.3448° E, 44.3168° N.

Facilities

Four bathing establishments with first aid services, toilets suitable for disabled visitors, hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food/refreshment points.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for the reference period 2015–2018. Escherichia coli measured at 31 CFU/100 ml (90th percentile) and 40 CFU/100 ml (95th percentile). Intestinal enterococci measured at 42 CFU/100 ml (90th percentile) and 58 CFU/100 ml (95th percentile). No direct discharges or watercourses deliver into the bathing water. The nearby Savio River mouth may trigger discharge activation during intense precipitation events.

Risks

During intense rainfall, potential discharges from the Savio River may activate and reach the sea in the immediate vicinity of the bathing water. The Savio River mouth proximity may cause eutrophication phenomena. Raphidophyte phytoplankton (Fibrocapsa japonica) and Ulva macroalgae proliferation were observed in July–August 2018 in the central-northern coastal section, causing modifications to beach usability during biomass accumulation.
