Bellevue

Denmark Coastal 1 - Excellent

Bellevue is a small sandy beach located on the west coast of Langeland in the southern part of Rudkøbing, facing Rudkøbing Løb. The beach is 225 meters long and up to 15 meters wide, consisting of sand with small to medium-sized stones scattered evenly across it. It offers scenic views toward a large green area to the south and Rudkøbing to the north.

Water

Brackish water in Rudkøbing Løb. Water depth rises gradually from the shore, remaining under 2 meters at approximately 200 meters from the coast. Sea bottom consists of sand with small stones scattered evenly.

Location

Rudkøbing, southern part of Langeland's west coast. Access via Bellevue or Strandbakken roads leading to a small parking area at the beach.

Parking available at the beach.

Season

1 June to 1 September. Water quality monitoring conducted routinely during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent, meeting statutory requirements. Classification based on regular monitoring samples from 2007–2010 for indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci). The presence of fecal bacteria indicates fecal contamination of bathing water.

Risks

Risk of short-term contamination from six overflow structures north of the beach, treated wastewater discharge from Rudkøbing Central Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Vejlen stream outlet 170 meters south of the beach, which may contain high concentrations of fecal bacteria. Macroalgae (seaweed) washes ashore regularly. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and phytoplankton blooms. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur.
