Søbadeanstalt

Søbadeanstalt is a public bathing facility located on the west coast of Langeland in the southern part of Rudkøbing. The facility is constructed with wooden planks and measures 7 meters wide by 25 meters long. The seabed consists of sand with small and medium-sized stones. The bathing water is classified as excellent quality, meeting all required standards based on monitoring data from 2007–2010.

Water

Brackish water in Rudkøbing Løb. Water depth increases gradually, with water less than 2 meters deep extending approximately 125 meters from the coast. Current direction is variable, primarily from the southwest or north.

Location

Located on Langeland's west coast in Rudkøbing, directly south of Rudkøbing Harbour. Access is via Havnegade or Strandbakken, both leading to a parking area at the facility. The site is centrally positioned with nearby facilities including toilets and changing areas.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Monitoring is conducted during the bathing season (1 June – 1 September) using indicator bacteria E. coli and enterococci. Classification is reviewed annually before the bathing season begins.

Risks

Six overflow structures in the area pose risk of short-term faecal contamination following discharge events. Rudkøbing Centralrenseanlæg (1 km south) has an emergency overflow that can discharge to Rudkøbing Harbour just north of the beach. Vejlen stream (600 meters south) can contain high faecal bacterial concentrations. Risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms is low, as is risk of phytoplankton blooms. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occur.
