Spodsbjerg Drej is a bathing beach located on the eastern coast of Langeland, facing Langelandsbælt. The beach is 500 metres long and up to 25 metres wide, composed primarily of medium-sized stones with sandy areas in places. The seabed consists of fine sand with scattered small and medium-sized stones. The beach has been classified as excellent quality based on routine monitoring of faecal indicator bacteria.

Water

Brackish water in Langelandsbælt. Water depth increases gradually from the shore, with water shallower than 2 metres extending approximately 400 metres from the coast. Current direction is predominantly from the north.

Location

Spodsbjerg Drej is centrally located at Spodsbjerg on Langeland's eastern coast. Access is via Drejet, which leads to a parking area at the beach. A large green area near the beach provides access to rescue equipment, toilet facilities, and a kiosk.

Facilities

Lifeguard rescue equipment, toilet facilities with drinking water, disabled access, parking, waste bins, first aid kit, rescue ring, warning signs for reduced water quality, Blue Flag designation.

Season

Official monitoring and swimming season: 1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Classification is based on routine monitoring from 2007–2010 for faecal indicator bacteria (E. coli and enterococci). Classification is revised annually before the bathing season begins. The water meets all required values.

Risks

Several potential sources of faecal pollution exist in the area: Akkermoserenden stream outlet 2.1 km north with high bacterial risk during certain periods; Roløkke Treatment Plant 1.7 km north with emergency overflow risk; two overflow structures 600–700 metres north that discharge during heavy rainfall with high risk of water quality degradation; Tudserenden stream outlet 1.5 km south with overflow structure 2 km upstream. Low risk of cyanobacteria and phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of macroalgae washup. Potential hazards from accidental spills, slurry tanks, and sewage line ruptures. Glass shards, waste, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Water quality warnings are issued on-site and via municipal website when risks are identified.
