Stenodden is a natural sandy beach located on the west side of Vemmenæs overlooking Lunkebugten, approximately 1 km long. The beach and seafloor consist of sand, making it child-friendly due to shallow water depth extending far from the shore. Water is often warm because of the shallow depth, though it can become unclear during westerly winds. A bathing pier is available on the beach, and a large grassed area with swings is located above the shore.

Water

The water is classified as saltwater in the South Funen Archipelago. Water depth is less than 2 m within 100–300 m from shore. The beach is 2–5 m wide and over 500 m long. Current direction at the monitoring station varies with wind conditions but primarily flows from the southwest. Tidal range is minimal at under 0.5 m.

Stenodden beach is located in Svendborg Municipality, Denmark. The nearest address is Gyvelvænget 1, 5700 Svendborg. Parking is available on roads within the Stenodden Sommerland summer house area. Bus service is available. The beach is situated in the Lunkebugten bay on the west side of Vemmenæs, across from the Stenodden Sommerland summer house area.

Facilities

Bathing pier, lifeguard equipment (rescue ring available), mobile phone coverage throughout the beach, bus service. No parking, toilets, showers, kiosk, restaurant, or Blue Flag designation.

Water Quality

Badevandet ved Stenodden is classified as Excellent quality. Classification is based on control samples from the last four years and is recalculated annually before the bathing season begins. Monitoring occurs throughout the bathing season (1 June – 15 September) and tests for E. coli and Enterococcus bacteria. Results are available on Svendborg Municipality's website.

Risks

Two overflow structures from the summer house area may cause faecal contamination during heavy rainfall, though dilution in Lunkebugten is expected to prevent significant impact on water quality. Risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) and phytoplankton blooms is assessed as low but can occur, particularly during prolonged warm periods with high nutrient levels. Risk of washed-up seaweed (macroalgae) at the water's edge; toxins can form in decaying seaweed and pathogenic bacteria may be present. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills can occur. Bathers should be alert to sudden contamination from incidents involving pleasure boats, manure tanks, or sewage lines.
