Bisnap Badestrand is a bathing beach located between Hou and Hals in a summer house area. The beach extends approximately 3.5 km in length with widths ranging from 5 to 45 metres. The sandy beach has low dunes and a sandy seabed. Water samples are collected during the bathing season and analysed for indicator bacteria (E. coli and intestinal enterococci) to assess faecal contamination. The bathing water is classified as excellent.

Saltwater beach in Kattegat. Beach length approximately 3.5 km, beach width 5–45 metres. Sandy seabed. Water depth approximately 1.5 metres at 300 metres from the shore. Salinity typically 18–32 ‰. Dominant current direction towards the north with variable flow patterns.

Water Quality

Water classified as excellent. Monitoring based on indicator bacteria E. coli and intestinal enterococci concentrations from the previous four years. Two streams (Krogede Bæk and Brændelsig Bæk) discharge into Kattegat at Bisnap Strand. Swimming near stream outlets is generally not recommended due to high bacterial content.

Risks

Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation at the water's edge; large quantities warrant caution as decaying algae may produce toxins and protect disease-causing bacteria from UV rays. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms which may cause skin irritation and rashes; toxin-producing varieties can poison if significant amounts of contaminated water are ingested. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur. Phytoplankton growth is considered minimal.
