Egense Badestrand

Egense badestrand is a sandy beach located south of Egense Lystbådehavn and northeast of Egense in Aalborg Municipality. The beach is approximately 130 metres long and 20 metres wide, with sand substrate. Water depth reaches 1.5 metres within the first 200 metres from shore, then drops more steeply. The bathing water is classified as excellent based on monitoring of indicator bacteria over four years.

Water

Coastal bathing water in Kattegat at the outlet of Limfjorden. Sandy bottom. Water depth reaches 1.5 metres within 200 metres from shore. Typical salinity is 18–32 ppt. Current direction is predominantly northward with variation.

Location

Egense badestrand is located south of Egense Lystbådehavn and northeast of Egense. Parking and facilities are available at the nearby yacht harbour. A toilet is located at Egense Lystbådehavn.

Bathing water samples are taken during the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water classification: Excellent. Monitoring is conducted during the bathing season for E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Possible faecal pollution sources include the yacht harbour, rainwater discharge outlets, and summer houses. Two small watercourses discharge south of the beach.

Risks

Risk of macroalgae (seaweed) accumulation in the water's edge; bathing near large quantities is not recommended. Risk of cyanobacteria blooms, which can cause skin irritation and poisoning if large quantities of water are ingested. Phytoplankton growth is assessed as low. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occasionally occur.
